there was a lot to do on block island, and we did it all :)
i feel a little silly saying this, but i haven't ridden a bike in years. so when we decided to rent some and bike up to a lighthouse, i can tell you with certainty that i was a complete disaster. not only did i get winded quickly, but i was terrified the entire time! luckily, i got there without splattering myself all over the sidewalk.
the fog was crazy all day long, so the pictures weren't all that clear. i still really like this picture of the lighthouse... you can see the scale of it if you look at that little person to the left walking towards it...
next, we biked to mohegan bluffs. evidently long ago, the mohegans tried to take over the island, and push the native american tribe already inhabiting it out. but they lost. badly. and the warriors were thrown over the bluffs. creepy, huh?
anyway, to get to the beach below, you had to walk down this crazy set of stairs, then climb down a steep set of rocks..
my favorite part though, was simple- going to the beach. to me, there is nothing better in this world than the smell of sand, the crash of waves, and the feel of the sun.
i haven't bought a bathing suit for myself in probably... 10 years? so i splurged on this one from esther williams :)
i do have to say, one of the best parts of the trip was climbing out on this rock arc- all the way to that tiny green light. it was something me and my brother would do when we were kids. we went out at dusk, so even though the rocks were fairly flat, we had to be careful not to break our necks! luckily, we made it back alive :P
and then, there was this :) did i say i loved the beach during the day? at night, it's even more magical.
