adventures

there was a lot to do on block island, and we did it all :)

matthew
ferry ride!

i feel a little silly saying this, but i haven't ridden a bike in years. so when we decided to rent some and bike up to a lighthouse, i can tell you with certainty that i was a complete disaster. not only did i get winded quickly, but i was terrified the entire time! luckily, i got there without splattering myself all over the sidewalk.

the fog was crazy all day long, so the pictures weren't all that clear. i still really like this picture of the lighthouse... you can see the scale of it if you look at that little person to the left walking towards it...

next, we biked to mohegan bluffs. evidently long ago, the mohegans tried to take over the island, and push the native american tribe already inhabiting it out. but they lost. badly. and the warriors were thrown over the bluffs. creepy, huh?

anyway, to get to the beach below, you had to walk down this crazy set of stairs, then climb down a steep set of rocks..

my favorite part though, was simple- going to the beach. to me, there is nothing better in this world than the smell of sand, the crash of waves, and the feel of the sun.

i haven't bought a bathing suit for myself in probably... 10 years? so i splurged on this one from esther williams :)

i do have to say, one of the best parts of the trip was climbing out on this rock arc- all the way to that tiny green light. it was something me and my brother would do when we were kids. we went out at dusk, so even though the rocks were fairly flat, we had to be careful not to break our necks! luckily, we made it back alive :P

and then, there was this :) did i say i loved the beach during the day? at night, it's even more magical.

  3. Aw! That looks like so much fun! <3

I desperately want an Esther Williams bathing suit - there is the most beautiful fuchsia one piece that I've got my eye on. ;) (And by "got my eye on" I mean "am going to try to convince my parents to buy me since they've promised to get me a new bathing suit three years in a row and never have." lol!)

    1. giirrl, i got a hott tip for you- i actually didn't order this one from modcloth. i googled "esther williams swimwear", and found some shops that sell them significantly cheaper! here's where i ordered from... ignore the cheesy website... http://www.leisureforwomen.com/category/shop_esther_williams_swimwear_sizes_6_to_18/

i would email them first though, to see if they definitely have the one you want. i originally wanted the red polka dot one, but it was out of stock. xx

  6. What a babe you look in your pin up style bikini. Your trip looks amazing. I grew up by the beach and now live a bit further in land but I miss it so much. If ever I'm stressed or unsettled, being by the sea completely calms me and puts me at ease.

  8. What an AMAZING place, Chantilly! :D And you certainly rock that swimsuit! Love the atmosphere in the first photos, too!

I'm scared about riding bikes, too. After I was almost run over by a bus when I fell off my bike going to school years ago, I haven't been able to feel confident on a bike again. And I haven't worn a swimsuit for 20 years now! :O I bought one about 3 years ago to wear in a country house we went to with my best friend, but I was so ashamed of my body that I never touched the water :( ... And I was slimmer than now.

Hope you had a wonderful day yesterday! ;D

    1. i'd definitely recommend one of these swimsuits if you feel weird about your body. they're made for that 50's bombshell look, so they flatter curves. i'm sure you'd look awesome in any bathing suit though :)
