the blue dory inn

hey hey- welcome to block island week! i mentioned before, we have an overload of pictures from the little vacation. better buckle in for a photo-heavy week full of beach adventures.

i figured i'd at least divide them up in a semi-logical fashion for you. first up: our accommodations.

every year when i was little, my grandparents would take us on day trips to block island. it was a fun summer destination when you were bored of your usual beach, and wanted a taste of something new. you could hop a ferry, and be there in an hour.

we would usually walk past this little bed and breakfast- the blue dory inn. it's been a minor dream of mine to stay here ever since then.

it's a little victorian-themed house with ocean views, stray cats running around, and creaky stairs. it was the best. little new england inns are full of that type of quaint charm, which i'm so glad to have finally experienced :)

checking in here was definitely a "we're not in brooklyn anymore!" moment :P there was the faint air of stodgy old uptightness, but it was easily overlooked the moment i heard the ocean waves lapping outside my window.

here's the main parlour of the inn-

also pertinent- the instant we were away from home, we gravitated towards finding a cat to hang out with :P a sweet little boy cat named simon was prowling around the parlour at night, so we stole him up to our room for a bit. no pictures though, since we thought we'd see him again, but he vanished after that first night.

  1. Looks like a lovely little place to escape too. I always prefer little inns or B&Bs over chain hotels. That extra charm really adds to the whole vacation experience.

    1. me too. i haven't stayed in a whole bunch of hotels in my life, but the smaller places always seem to have so much more personality :)

  3. I love B&B's that look like this. There are a ton up the coast of California. This reminds me of a place where "Are you afraid of the dark" would be filmed.

  4. What a fun place to stay! Last summer when I went home to Eugene (Oregon), we stayed at a B&B like this. It was so fun to stay in a place you've grown up seeing but never been inside. Granted, it was a little stuffy in appearance, but I love the feeling of living in a giant Victorian house for the weekend :) I love seeing vacation pics!

  5. We stayed in a similar Inn on the Beach in St. Augustine for our 2 year Anniversary. It felt pretty hoity toity until we met the host, who was the sweetest lady in the world. Love the pictures! That place looks so sweet.

  6. Holy moly...I want to escape to here. Places like these are my favorite - very Dawson's Creek-ish (which, yes I will admit I have a guilty pleasure for). We stayed in one like this in Lancaster. So very charming. Really pretty photos Chantilly!
