My new/ old accordion

For a little while, my parents were running a vintage furniture business. They're still in the habit of going to auctions and picking things up, and recently acquired me an accordion!

I wish I knew how to play it better, but I've been wanting one for a few years. I can handle the chords on the left hand, but would never be able to do a right-handed melody along with it though! Not without some serious practice.

Matt's been getting more and more into photography, and took this opportunity to try out some new, fancy lighting techniques. He wants to set it up so that we can start taking style photos inside. I know that daylight is always better, but there's such a little window of it available now that fall has arrived. Plus taking style photos out in the cold... not fun.

I think I look a little like a school teacher here because of the black board in the background... it's actually for lighting purposes :P These photos were kind of a "test."

(nose a little red because it was a bit of a weepy day!)

  1. I'm sorry it was a weepy day but you look amazing, and the photos, especially that last photo that shows off the dress, are lit so beautifully. They have an almost eerie spectre quality. I love them.

    1. ha- it's not actually a blackboard... just a little black piece of cardboard for absorbing light. it's a lighting technique :)

  3. My grandpa used to have one and play - we kids loved listening to him and singing along for hours! Loving the pics and I really need better indoor lighting as well - fall is truly making it hard to shoot some decent indoor pics. xxx

  4. Love accordions! We have one as well, but it needs to be repaired. I would also love to be able to play it better.

    1. yeah, this one has a hole or something in one of the speakers... on certain chords it sounds a little broken :(

  7. I love this photo shoot! ;) I'm not sure if it's because of the light, but these photos certainly look different from all the other ones in this blog.

And you look cute with the accordion! There's a Mexican singer called Julieta Venegas who plays it really well. I'm not sure of how popular she is in the States; she recently played here, but well, there are a lot of Mexicans in Cali, hehe. I kind of like what she does. Anyway, the accordion in her pop tunes is her signature, I guess.

Hope you have a great week! ;D

    Hugs!

  10. My mom tells me stories of when her parents made her take accordion lessons as a child. Everytime I see an accordion I think of that. You make it look awesome. you look so pretty in those photos. The last photo is such a sweet portrait. He's getting good :) Can't wait to see more.

  14. Oh my Chantilly, I have been wanting an accordion for some time now and actually had to resist my urge to buy this very expensive vintage one I found at the antique mall. Seeing these photos definitely makes me think I need one in my life. Both you, the dress & these photos are beautiful! You are the best at taking indoor photos I swear. I would love to master this for the colder months. Wishing a very non-weepy day for you :) xoxo Marisa
