The day these pictures were taken was the day before Sandy was supposed to hit NYC.
Looking back at this ominous Sunday, not a lot seemed out of place. We went out to brunch, like we often do. I overheard the bartender say the restaurant would be staying open during the storm. It was grey, windy, and a little cold. Just a little too cold for this jacket I was wearing...
I recently rediscovered this jacket. I bought it at Contempo Casuals probably over ten years ago. I wisely thought it would be a good investment piece... I was right, in a sense. Even though I can count on one hand the number of times I've worn it, it somehow survived my numerous closet purges over the years. I always ended up keeping it. My reasoning being I'd need it someday for a job interview, or to wear to a temp assignment.
I pulled it out of a clothing black hole the other day, and actually decided to give it a chance in my everyday wardrobe. And you know what? I like it. It's classic. A basic black blazer... who knew I could be so sensible?
But I digress... here we are being happily oblivious to the destruction and carnage to come...
Blazer- old/ shirt- f21/ hat- thrifted/ scarf- orla kiely for uniqlo/ skirt- american apparel/ tights- c/o we love colors/ gloves- c/o lumistyle/ boots- target
Also one more thing:
There is so much messed-up stuff happening in the wake of this hurricane, so here is my personal cause: If you are in NYC (or any affected area), and you're an animal lover, please consider fostering or adopting a cat or dog. The hurricane left many animals homeless, and a lot of them are due to be killed this week. I'm nothing if not a sucker for animals, so I wanted to get the word out on this! Find a shelter near you, and help a nice kitty or doggy if you can!
PS, come see me perform this Sunday at the Tinderbox Music Festival!! Webster Hall in NYC, CocoRosie headlining. Buy tix here. xx
