Work Your Curves

Work Your Curves

What's the best way to flatter curves? Answer is pretty simple to me: high rise pants.

I'm so glad high-waisted everything is back in style. Where would I be without it?

I don't know why, but talk of curve-flattering styles brings up some feelings for me. So I can I get a little real with you for a second? The truth is, I find it hard to dress in a flattering manner for this blog sometimes. Clothes that I love and am dying to wear, or think will look good on me, show up looking completely different in pictures.

A lot of people say that they wish they had my curves. And I'm not dissing them! But it's aggravating that companies are generally not concerned with making clothing for my body type. In fact, most clothes are made with a thinner, straighter-looking wearer in mind. Those bodies are beautiful too, and deserve to look good. All body types deserve to have options. So it is frustrating to "make it work" all the time with clothes that are clearly not made for me.

Anyway.

Just had to share that little rant with you, before I tell you how badass I think I look in this outfit. And it was pieced together with clothing whose makers totally had my body type in mind when they made it. Win!

This is little vintage shirt is one that I don't think I can ever get rid of. I bought it for $3. Solid investment. And the pants... I've worn them before, and I think they speak for themselves.

I have your body type and sadly I don't rock it out like you do! This inspires me to love my body more and be more confident in it, thanks!

    1. well, i don't always rock it out... like i said, it's not always easy to find flattering clothing for our body type! and even though they look fabulous, sometimes, i just don't feel like wearing high-waisted pants, or going through the trouble of finding something "flattering." sigh.

i'm glad the photos inspired you, though :) it goes to show there is no "wrong" body type. we can all maximize our "assets." :P

  4. Love the outfit!

I agree with you on wishing that there were more clothing selections for more body types. I'm plus sized and for most of my life plus sized clothes meant old lady clothes, and then it started getting more trendy.. but everything was plus size = curvy. But see, I'm not curvy, I'm actually more straight, maybe slightly apple shaped. But that's starting to change too as younger stores add plus sizes. So, it's good to see all of the changes, and I hope that more keep happening.

    1. i hear you. i think it's so annoying that most clothing companies don't realize the potential goldmine there could be in making clothing that flatter more diverse shapes. but as you said, there is some change happening. i just wish it would happen sooner! x

  5. Girl you look amazing !! These high waisted jeans look perfect on you and your pin-up worthy bod. I've struggled with skinny jeans for years, apparently my thighs and valfs must be bigger than the design... Oh well, it makes finding the perfect pair even more rewarding! Xx

  7. I know what you mean, some clothes even when you really would love to wear them ,simply don't work for our type of body, but i'm glad to see that you are proud of your body, and show how great you look in your outfits!

  12. I love that you admit looking good today. There are so many days that I feel like I look awful and few days that I feel like 'yes, I am rocking it today'. I think we (women in general) need to start being more comfortable with admitting when we look good and not in a cocky-way, just in a take-that-low-self-esteem way.
I don't know. I'm just happy you look good and happy you know it too!

    1. exactly. i've written about it before... women are always so quick to put themselves down in ways that they don't even realize. i know i struggle with this all the time. plus our culture in particular is really quick to point out how self absorbed or cocky a woman is for realizing anything positive about herself- especially pertaining to physical appearance.

so i just think that it's really important to acknowledge when we ARE proud of ourselves for some reason... be it looks-wise, or anything else.

  15. The pants are amazing. I partly don't ever wear pants/trousers anymore because I can't find any that fit in a flattering way. I have really wide hips and a little bit of a belly and nothing seems to look right on them. I tried on so many pairs of shorts in the summer and just gave in. Wear skirts and dresses all the time as a result. The jeans you have are such a beautiful colour and work really well. I think Americans just know how to make jeans, ours suck in comparison. :)

  18. Same! Some of the outfits I put together don't look all that great in photos. I feel like I need a constant defined waist or high waist everything just to even show I have one!

I would be down to go shopping more if there were more options.

I really love this outfit. I am dying to get some high waisted jeans like those. So cute!

    1. yes, yes, YES. because my hips are so :ahem: shapely , my waist usually needs to be really defined, otherwise i look frumpy or dumpy. it's a total pain. but i guess the upside is that we get to enjoy that lovely pinup-style look :)

  21. :D I know what You mean about the clothes and companies not having Us in mind as targets, and it actually sometimes takes a toll on My self esteem. I'd be like... am I fat, or just look bad in good clothes? lol
But You look great!!! And I am right there with You when it comes to high rise pants-jeans-everythings!!!!!

  22. Girl, I think you are beautiful and this outfit fits you perfectly. It's hard to dress in general (I think). For me, it's my shortness and lack of an upper body. It's all about knowing what works and rockin' it!
