pot throwing

here's an interesting activity i did recently at my time at appel farm: throwing.

ever heard of it? it's when you make a cup/ bowl/ pot on the spinning pottery wheel. a friend invited me to sit in on one of his classes, and i made lots of cups that day :)

fact: throwing is messy.
fact: if you throw, you will get clay on your arms, legs, face, and possibly in your hair.
fact: "centering" is nearly impossible if you are me.

  1. I haven't done this in so long, it's a lot of fun!

  2. Awe, but the last piece looks really neat! ;) It sure sounds like a fun activity to try.

I miss you, too! Hope you have a fun week! ;D

  3. I love LOVE doing pottery- I used to take a ceramics class in high school, and TA'd it the following year, and miss it loads! Lovely hobby. xxxx

I loved art class but I was never good at 3D art! That looks difficult...but fun! :)

  5. aw I love this! I did pottery like this for years in middle and high school and miss it so much. looks like us succeeded in making a pretty little pot :o)

  6. There's a book my friend has on throwing that is deeply spiritual and beautiful. If only I could remember the title! It had something to do with centering.

    I love the pics. :)

  7. This is so awesome! I always think it's so great when I see images/video of people doing this but I've never put it on my goal list. Maybe now I will! I also think that the term 'throwing' is so interesting because it seems so strange to me, semantically. :-) <3

  8. That seems so awesome. I have never made pottery and looks like fun.

  9. Oh man, centering is the hardest. I've taken more than one ceramics class and am still far from being an expert. How fun though. There's nothing like the feeling of clay between your hands.

  10. Sounds like a lot of fun. I've always wanted to try my hand at ceramics. It's fun to get dirty while you're working sometimes.

  11. fantastic! I would love to do something like that one day

  12. There's nothing quite like feeling your ball of clay become center on the wheel. I feel like that's what it'll feel like when everything falls into place some day---wobbly, wobbly, little less wobbly, some more wobbling, no more wobbly. I think any pottery throw-er will know what i mean. :)

thank you for taking the time to leave a comment :) i appreciate your thoughts.
