How did that happen?!! It's completely insane.
...
Anyway... I've been really busy, juggling a few different things. I happened to fall into some work at an awesome digital pr company for musicians (Cyber PR!) That was pretty cool in itself. But it also led me to my latest proud thrifter moment. Well, if we're being totally honest here, it was much more of a dumpster diving moment (sans dumpster.) That's right. Think what you will, but this was a score that I didn't have to work for, or even spend money on...
A new chair for my office!
Even though it's much more of a kitchen chair, I love it in my office!
While working on Thursday, someone noticed that a neighbor was putting furniture out on the curb... a bunch of cute chairs among them. He brought them inside, and asked if anyone needed some chairs. They were in good condition, so I snagged one of them!
Taking the train home with a chair was interesting... I actually sat in it for part of the ride.
I guess technically, it's curb-diving.
Finding a new office chair has been on my to-do list so long. I am thrilled. THRILLED. My old one was just an ugly castoff inherited from Matt. This one's cuter and (believe it or not) more comfortable. And it was free!!
This is one of the best things about living in NY. Sometimes you find exactly what you're looking for right outside on the curb :)
♥ listen to my new record on bandcamp ♥
Someone threw that chair away?!? Crazy!

they threw away those chairs and more! some people even make their livings off of curb-diving here... the stuff people toss in certain neighborhoods is often barely used/ in great condition.
DeleteThat chair rocks! Definitely a good score. The color is just gorgeous :-) Almost as awesome as the red of your knee-highs
ReplyDeletemy favorite thing about it was the color :)
DeleteAbsolutely cute blog! <3

First and foremost, congrats on the new job!!! :D And second, that chair is so pretty! It totally matches your personality and your house, I think ... Even though I've never been there, haha.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and a fun month! ;D Yeah, I don't know how we got to October so fast :/.
well the job was/ is only temporary, but i do really like it there! thank you so much miki! missin' you. <3
DeleteNice work mama. And I love that you sat on it for part of your ride. :) Those knee socks are perfect, too. Happy October 1! :)
ReplyDeleteyeah, sitting on the chair in a crowded train was an interesting experience... but what else was i gonna do? thanks, doll. xx
DeleteI love it! I used to do a paper route and people would bring furniture to the curb for the garbage men but I would get their first and grab something if I liked it. Ain't no shame! ;)
ReplyDeleteyeahhh, girl!
DeleteVery nice work!! Love it.
ReplyDeletehe he - too cute! The mister and I used to just walk the alleys in downtown Vancouver on moving weekends, and we furnished both our workspaces that way... :) Best ever! It's all usually newish stuff in really good shape, just not many people have cars, so they put it our back to get rid of it... :)
ReplyDeletei so want to do this... did you have a car? you can get some really great stuff in the wealthier neighborhoods.
DeleteYou are hilarious girl, sitting on a chair on a train ride. Love it!!

haaa, it was indeed hilarious!! xo
DeleteHaha, yes so true. One thing I definitely miss about living in a city. Why would anyone want to get rid of that chair...it's a beauty! Love that last photo of you lady! It's definitely going to end up on my Tumblr page :) xo Marisa
ReplyDeletethank you miss marisa. i'm sure they just had a newer/ better set of chairs coming. my gain :P
DeleteThere's nothing like free stuff! I know people who've furnished their whole apartments curb-diving, and certainly every time I put anything out near the bins in Barcelona, it's gone within five minutes. I'm a box diver myself (parents and sisters leftovers) :D
ReplyDeleteabsolutely! i'm psyched to not have to spend money on a new chair... of course i'd been putting it off forever. i love when the universe answers your prayers with a super-sweet curb dive :P
DeleteAh that chair looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteSCORE! This is like my bookshelf incident. I love a good useful find like that, I tend to find I like it more than a new store-bought if I've gotten it that way.
