I love bread.
Or rather, I love good bread. Yes yes, I'm a tea snob, I'm a music snob, and evidently I'm a bread snob too. But that love is a difficult one sometimes. Because no matter how awesome the bread, it usually goes stale way too quickly, or at least quicker than I can eat it. And wasting half a loaf is sad :(
So once upon a time, in the not-so-distant past, I had a beautiful Italian loaf in my cupboard. And as bread is wont to do, it went stale. But instead of getting all sad and passive about it like normal, I decided to be proactive about the situation... by making croutons.
I just diced up my stale leftovers into little squares. Then used about 1/2 to a Tsp of butter in a frying pan, to fry those bad boys up.
That's it! Easiest recipe ever. Also, they are easy to store... I used a big plastic baggie. What a lucky day for this loaf of bread... it will never be stale ever again! I could also see trying different varieties. Like pumpernickel... OR ROSEMARY. Omg, the possibilities are endless.
Fresh off the frying pan. Not wasting food is pretty rad :P
♥ watch my new video for "just the way you are" on youtube!! ♥

DeleteI love bread too. I love adding different things to salad to make it more interesting and also slightly less healthy :) But it's still better than eating just those things without the salad. My favourite is baked potato cubes, or chips in disguise :D I've never had croutons on salad, I'll have to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteyeah, i always feel like eating raw vegetables is better than not... whatever other options i decide to throw in there. x
DeleteYum! I too love a good loaf of bread, but it always goes stale before we can eat it all with just the two of us in the house. Although, homemade croutons are a practical and tasty solution!
ReplyDeletetotally! i'm also toying with the idea of making my own breadcrumbs, but we've already got plenty of those in the house. when they're running low, though :)
DeleteThis post made me go all Homer Simpson.... ooooooooh crooooooutons.....

Just Pirouette and Carry On...
me too! fresh ones are the best. shoot, now i want to make more of them just to eat as snacks...
Deletehomemade croutons are one of life's simple pleasures! (i may be a bread snob as well..though i never actually thought about it! and i'm sooo a music snob too--see we have things in common!) these are great flavored as well. i like to add dried spices/seasonings or fry them in a flavor infused oil (like roasted garlic infused olive oil). but buttery is just as delectable! your salad looks super yummy! <3 haley
ReplyDeleteomg, that sounds sooo good! i wanted to try the dried herbs next. but garlic... girl, i'm done for. :in a crouton stupor:
DeleteYum! This looks great, I'm definitely a bread snob too, I can't eat white sandwich bread..it just grosses me out!

yeah... i'm mostly the same. i don't mind regular white bread for peanut butter sandwiches or toast. but anything else is a no-go for me. x

Yesturday I had the best lunch at work (I've brought a bread knife to work specially) and had fresh tiger bread and cream cheese! i just love fresh bread so much and sourdough!

yum! double yum to sourdough!! x
DeleteI love bread too! It physically angers me when people talk badly about bread. Not only do I think it doesn't make you fat but I also think that it is very good for you.
