On Sunday, Matt and I stumbled out to a matinee show at Rockwood Music Hall. Rockwood has the reputation of being the finest little venue in the area to see singer-songwriters. I've actually wanted to play here for a long time, but they're very hard to get in touch with. Oh well, what can you do...
Well, my friend Julia DID get a gig here, and we went to go see her. Her music is interesting, being that it's not just straight-up singer songwriter stuff, but original compositions for musical theater. So she was playing the piano, but other people singing the lyrics. The place was packed when we got there. We couldn't even get in the main room, so we had to venture into the "overflow" room. It's a smaller space with a tv hooked up so that you can watch and listen to the performance going on in the next room. For this reason, I couldn't get any pictures of the performance!
We did, however, manage to get some photos of me (being the narcissist that I am, haha.) :P So we're in the overflow room... and even though there were people sitting at the bar and listening to the music, I couldn't help but notice the pretty red wall. So asked asked Matt to snap a few photos.
I've been noticing more and more lately that it feels weird to "model" in front of the random strangers, however, it's not as totally embarrassing as it has been in the past. Maybe I'm making some progress?
♥ watch my new video for "just the way you are" on youtube!! ♥
i liked the song! you have a great voice =)
ReplyDeletethanks! which song? x
DeleteI can't believe I still haven't been to Rockwood. I seem to have tremendously bad luck and find out that someone I wanted to see was there two days ago.
ReplyDeleteoh, are you in the city? it's a really great place :)
DeleteSounds like such a fun event! And "just the way you are" is the first song I have heard of yours, but I LOVE it! You have got a beautiful voice and I can't wait to hear more!
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me to finally make a YouTube of some of the covers I am working on.
xoxo
oh, well thank you so much! i'm thinking about making some more recordings, and have been talking to some people about it. so there may be more :)
Deletei'm so glad to have inspired you!! xo
Nice pics! ;) And that's so cool that you now feel more comfortable posing in front of strangers! That's something I don't think I'll ever achieve, haha; I can't even try to pose when David is behind the camera :/.
ReplyDeleteMiss ya!
i think it's just a natural result of feeling more confident and comfortable in my own skin lately. i still feel sheepish... but i just try to tell myself that i'll never see those people again. they may look at me weird in that one moment, but even if i passed by them on the street an hour later, they probably wouldn't even recognize me. xo
DeleteThese photos are great! Love the hat and gloves :)

thanks megan :))
DeleteI like Rockwood a lot, but I wish they would chill out with their drink policy. They circle around you once the hour mark hits, even if you are still drinking. And they still made me buy drinks, even with my CMJ pass. Okay, rant done. ;)
ReplyDeletedude... this is totally why i don't go there as much as i want to. those ladies are sooo aggressive! haha. i know the place has to make money, but damn!
Deletestill, it doesn't compare to one nyc venue (whom i will not name) that i've had multiple bad experiences with. i was performing with my friend... i did a few songs with her, then climbed down from the stage and sat down to watch the rest of her performance. the waitress came by and told me the (completely empty) seats are only for paying customers, and i would have to stand. i told her i was part of the performance... i was just on stage performing. she said it didn't matter... i'd have to buy a drink or stand!!
okay, that was a huuge rant... ohh nyc :P
Oh my goodness, I need to know where! Email me? Message me? Hints? Cross streets? ;)
DeleteI still haven't gained the guts to take photos like this in public. Ah sigh.... someday. Looking adorable as always!

I can't tell you how awkward it feels every time I ask Matt, or any friend to snap some photos of me while in public. I feel like people are looking and judging (they aren't.) But then I see the photos back at home, and it's always totally worth it. To know that I'm sharing a moment with blogger friends, and people who keep up with my rantings and musings here.
DeleteI'd say do it, even if it's awkward. ESPECIALLY if it's awkward. You will get used to it, and it will be worth it in the end :)
Well done on feeling more comfortable taking photos in public, I'm not a big fan of it either (same worry as you about looking like a narcissist) but it's getting easier over time. This sounds like a wonderful evening, and I love that last photo of your! Hope the storm didn't batter you too much xo
