wiggin' out!!
As much as I've yearned for the skill, I've never been talented at doing my own hair. It's wavy/ curly, and hard to manage. It's a pain in the butt, frankly, so that's why I've been intrigued by the idea of wigs recently.
It's a new concept for me, and I've always had a negative connotation associated with wig-wearing. Visions of outdated styles and skewed toupees danced in my head. But I've noticed a few girls around the blogosphere wear wigs... so I did some research, fell in love with a brand, and ordered one! You may have already seen its unofficial debut in my New Year's post.
I have to say... it's pretty badass. So far, I've only worn it to New Year's and for a few other small purposes (like this style shoot), but it looks really glam! It's like my hair, but kicked up a notch. Matt HATED it when I first put it on, but he came around ;) It's hard to blame him... even I was shocked to see such a drastic change in my look within minutes. However, when I wear it out, everyone thinks it's my my own hair. My friends practically died over at the New Year's party, and everyone declared they wanted wigs too!
It's still not completely comfortable for me to wear, though. After awhile it gets itchy, and I have to find a way to pin it properly. Plus it gets much more tangly than normal hair. I haven't figured out how to comb it out without snarls. Truthfully, it's more high-maintenance than I was expecting... maybe even more so than my own hair! But it looks so good that I'm dedicated to figuring out the mystery :)
Also, this color is a tad bit lighter than my hair. Next time, I want to get something closer to my own color. THEN maybe branch out to something fun, like dark red, or maybe even pink! As I unfortunately found out in Junior High, I look terrible as a blonde. So I probably won't go there unless I'm really bored...

ha, "keep wiggin' on" ... i love it :)
DeleteI love this!!!! I love the bangs.... Mine don't look this good!!! maybe it's time for me to pick a new one!
ReplyDeleteyeahh, get it girl! i did a LOT of research (ok, maybe obsessing) about the most natural-looking wigs. i don't have that much experience in this area, but i am really happy with this one :)
DeleteI've always wanted to try wigs out! I have a pixie cut and I think wigs would be easy for me to wear. Yours looks great! :)
ReplyDeletehttp://threeinchstitch.blogspot.com
thanks! i think it would be super easy for you to wear a wig with a pixie cut. part of the annoyance of wearing it for me, is that i already have long hair that i have to stuff into a wig cap. you should go for it!
DeleteIt looks great! I have some blue and green wigs (for parties but they're good quality) and they're SO tangly and get really hot... but they're totally worth it now and then because they're such a change from my normal (thin red curly) look.
ReplyDeleteblue and green sound super pretty!
DeleteIf you unravel the how to comb out the tangles do let me know! They can really be a bother! You do look awesome though :) love the bangs too!
ReplyDeletethank you lizelle! i'm looking into getting some special wig spray that supposedly helps with the tangles. i'll make a post about it if it works!
DeleteI love it! I've been looking at crazy lolita wigs in pink and blue (which i don't really have an occassion to wear), but these natural ones are nice!
ReplyDeleteha, i don't even really have an occasion to wear this one. i was thinking of wearing it out more, and also for performances and things. it sure is great to wear in pictures, though :) i think a pink wig would be so fun!
Deleteoh my word! this is a wig? it looks amazing and so so natural on you! my hair has a mind of its own too, quite hard work and im not too good with hair tbh. Red would be real fun too! And adorable outfit, seriously cute colours!xx
ReplyDeletethank you rachel! i agree, i like the way the pictures came out. i wasn't sure how it would photograph, but it really does look like my hair! i think i might be getting a red one soon :P xx!
DeleteEverything looks great in this photo. You, the hair, the outfit. I love the color. It looks so good on you. I don't have a wig but boy that would be so fun. To change my color and my hair style depending on my mood, my outfits, the occasion.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to say, that peter pan collar dress looks so adorable.
Hugs and kisses
that's exactly what i was thinking! why ruin your own hair with dye, heat, etc. when you can just toss on a style you've got in the arsenal? xx
DeleteThat hair color looks great on you! Way to rock that wig lady!

right?? i realllly hoped to get one that looked real, and i guess i made a good choice :)
DeleteLooks smashing :-)
ReplyDeletethank you :)
DeleteI've always fancied a wig, but like you said I've always been a bit worried it might look a bit, sort of, obviously a wig....or worse blow away in a strong breeze! This looks brilliant though, good wig work!
ReplyDeleteKate @ Just Pirouette and Carry On...
to be honest, it's been really windy in nyc lately. i'm scared if i wear it to the coffee shop or wherever, it could come flying off. the thing is, you have to use a lot of pins to secure it. if there are enough pins, it shouldn't just come flying off (or so i've read.) still, it's scary!
DeleteOmg WOW! It's unbelievable what a different hair colour and style can change about a person's appearance! This colour really really suits you, it looks great with your complexion!
ReplyDeleteyeah, that's why i kind of was hoping for a darker color. i appreciate what a new look can do for a person, but i still want to look like me... you know? i'm hoping to go wavier and darker next time :)
Deletesexy lady, you look so great with that hair color, it suits you very well, and it looks so natural for be a wig
ReplyDeletei would have never guessed it was a wig! looks good :) I've thought about wigs for myself but have yet to try it out....the world of wigs is a foggy one
ReplyDeleteOoh, it looks so lovely - and REAL too! <3 Such a pretty wave!

thank you jo :) xoxo
DeleteIf I didn't read this and just saw pictures, I would have thought this was your hair too! It looks so.....real!!!! I love it so much! Now I want a wig too but my hair is so crazy that there is no way I could find something that will remotely match my crazy wave/curl/frizz.
ReplyDeletethey do have wigs that are crazy/ curly looking... but they are the right KIND of crazy/ curly. if that makes any sense. this is the way i wish my real hair looked, and this is the next kind of wig i'm hoping to get :)
DeleteI'm quite fond of the wigs done by the company Gothic Lolita Wigs; they have a HUGE following on Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr. Their wigs are very elaborate and realistic, and you can even style them any way you want to because they're made from a synthetic material similar in structure to human hair. I'm lusting after their burgundy wigs... all of them!

yes, i came across glw in my research. they look fun, and maybe if i ever delve into crazier colors, i'll try them out! x
DeleteIt looks fantastic - just like real hair! I'm tempted to get a brightly coloured one just for fun. xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Chantilly...I stop by because I haven't read any blog in ages and I find this. Now ALL I can think about is buying wigs. Craaaap! This looks friggin amazing on you...love the color and the style. I'm having wig-envy. Glad to see you are doing to great too! You're looking fierce to boot!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Totally replying to my own comment...it sucks having black hair because I'm pretty much stuck with it unless I bleach the hell out of it...so again...I can't stop thinking about wigs.
Deletehaaa, this is sort of the way i felt once i started my research. i couldn't stop thinking about it! i think you should totally get one... maybe even one that's mid-length so it wouldn't be such a crazy change. miss you! xx
DeleteYou don't even want to know how many I bought :p I went SUPER cheap though...I got a bob like I have but in a light brown and then...3 long ones. Burgundy, black, and dark brown :)
Deletegirl, how are they? i got a cheap one on ebay before i discovered the ones that i really like (gabalmania). the ebay one is like a halloween wig compared to the nicer ones... a shame :( how did yours turn out?? xx
DeleteI don't know yet. They haven't gotten here...buying from china has it's pros and cons...cons being the time it takes to get here! I went to the site...the gabalmania one and they ARE gorgeous but I didn't want to spend the 30+ dollars on it quite yet so I went with the cheapo ones from ebay. So we shall see! Hopefully they're here by the end of the month.
DeleteI have been tempted to try extensions, and this is totally motivating me to go for it! Fun!
ReplyDeletethis looks fabulous on you! wow. i'm a HUGE fan ...I never though people really wore wigs now....but you totally rock it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun thing to try! It looks really lovely too, especially with the colors you're wearing.
ReplyDeleteI found you through the blog hop and am your newest follower! ;-)

You look great in it! I've always been curious about wigs. And I also love the outfit! ;P
ReplyDeletethanks miki! xx
DeleteThat wig looks great on you, very flattering! This has changed my mind forever on wigs ;P
ReplyDeleteI love the color of that dress!! :D
ReplyDeleteI've always been a fan of wigs since I too have curly thick hair and it can be lot to handle... and sometimes too much. The trick to finding a good one is checking to see if it has a realistic looking part.
ReplyDeleteAnd the one you picked is great--very realistic and it falls beautifully.
well thank you! this one does have a good part, you just can't see it in the pictures :P x
DeleteWow, so cute!! I wear wigs myself and I feel like I may have that same one in a different color. It looks beautiful on you! Wigs are so fun, aren't they? :)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great. Looking at these photos I think you would look good as a blonde. Maybe that was to much of a shock to your system.
