i showed the pictures to matt, and he said it looked like they were "taken in heaven." i can't lie, they kinda taste like heaven too. my old roommate made these at a bbq, and i've been in love ever since. at the time, she used "simply limeade," which actually worked great. but i wanted to try and make the juice from scratch.
i'm definitely a rum girl, and this is my favorite kind- gosling's black seal. (and no, it has nothing to do with ryan gosling.)
you'll need:
~ 15 limes
~ 1 1/2 cups sugar
~ 3 cups water
~ 1 1/2 cups ice (as needed)
~ 4 shots of rum
~ 1/4 tsp salt
i peeled the limes and ran them through the juicer, but you can hand-juice them...
next, i took the the juice, sugar, water, salt, and ice- and poured them back and forth between two different containers.
then, all you do is put a shot of rum each into four 8 or 10-ounce glasses, and pour the mixture over that. bam! delicious.
oh, and i recently got some of those super-cute paper straws to give my drinks a little more pizazz!!
the color of the cocktail is amber, because i used dark rum. you could use a lighter rum, and it would probably turn out the light green color.

This sounds awesome, Chantilly! I might have to celebrate the end of the semester this weekend with a round or two :) I love rum and limeade but I've only had it with Simply Limeade too, I think homemade would be so much better! And salted? Yum!
ReplyDeleteOooh, yum! I will definitely have to try this.
ReplyDeleteLemonaide and Limeaide are my favorites!
haha! i love his comment & i have to agree...they do look like they were taken in heaven. xo.
ReplyDeletemm sounds yummy!

Thanks for the lovely comment you left on my blog. So nice to discover your blog and beautiful songs. I think they just might find their way onto my iPod. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Those cocktails look lovely for a hot day...once it decides to get hot here that is.
Oooh, I have to try this soon! I love rum, too; especially the dark kind. Whenever I don't want to get too tipsy but want some alcohol in my veins, I order a Cuba Libre ... Or rum & Coke as most people here call it. I like to say Cuba Libre, though, hehe.
ReplyDeleteHey, one question about the paper straws: do they, by any chance, kind of taste like paper? I bought some red and white ones on Etsy a long time ago and I love the way they look, but I can't help tasting the paper a litte bit. I'm very sensitive when it comes to smells and taste. People who have used mine said they're ok, but I'm still not 100% happy with their flavor :/.
