Best Hot Chocolate in Bruges, Belgium

How much do you love hot chocolate?

I'm not usually crazy about it, myself. When I think of it, I usually picture packets of powder with stale marshmallows swirled into some hot water... unappetizing to say the least.

However, I recently came across a place while traveling that was a whole other experience. I'm talking about The Old Chocolate House in Bruges, Belgium! It's a must if you're planning on passing through this quaint little town. So much so that I had to make sure it had its own blog post!

We walked by on the street it on the street a few times before recognizing it. It's not much to look at from the outside, but don't let that fool you... it's what's inside that counts!

When we walked in, we saw a very traditional-looking chocolate shop. You'd completely miss the little twisty staircase to the right if you weren't looking for it. We ventured up to the second floor, and there were two rooms decked out with dark wood, vintage table clothes, and gorgeous stained glass windows. It seemed busy, and I was slightly disappointed that the seats by the window were taken (we snagged a couple shots there at the end of our visit though!)

A handsome and busy-seeming waiter greeted us and handed us menus. I was overwhelmed at the selection... I never knew there were so many different kinds of chocolate! I decided on the Single Origin "Madagascar" chocolate, which was 67% cacao. Matt went even more decadent with the Death by Chocolate, topped with Oreos, M&M's, and marshmallows (holy...)

The waiter brought out a bowl of hot milk and a side of Madagascar chocolate chips that I was to whisk in... I could add as much or as little as I pleased. They brought Matt his hot chocolate in a little teapot, which he poured over a cup full of the treats that came as a part of it.

One other cute thing about this place... they actually bring you a side of brownies as an "appetizer." They were so rich and delicious, and brownies are my fave. But unfortunately, I couldn't finish them!

Okay, I hope that I've sold you guys on this place. It was truly an amazing experience and I hope you get to come here one day!
