Instagram Secrets + 101 Hashtags for Travel Bloggers

Instagram Hashtags Guide Strategy Travel Bloggers

There are three things that have become a bigger part of my life in the past year: traveling, taking photos, and Instagram.

I decided to make Instagram a serious hobby last January, and it's been going pretty well! I've been putting more effort into all things Insta- which includes taking better photos, editing, planning content intentionally, and growth strategy. The last one is one that people can get a little nutty over. I've seen all kinds of people fretting about their engagement rates, follower dropoff, and the like.

I'll admit, I've fretted some about this too, but I try not to let it take over my life. Instead, I just do the best I can and be a sponge for learning. I love discovering new techniques and tricks to make my following grow, so I've been testing out lots of them. One of the things I've found that's worked for me is hashtag strategy.

Now you're looking at me like "Girl, hashtags aren't a secret." Haha, touche. However, it's a little more complicated the way you might be currently thinking about it. A lot of people even say that hashtags are dead and don't lead to growth. And I agree- if the way that you go about using them is by posting #love and #latergram on every pic.

I'm here to tell you that hashtags do less than nothing if you use them the wrong way.

For example, imagine your Instagram account has 3,000 gorgeous followers already. You've got a lovely post lined up for them that you've put a lot of work into. Then you decide to tag it with the very popular #flashesofdelight hashtag. Well... that hashtag has MILLIONS of submissions, with more pouring in every second. Unfortunately, your post will get buried under the posts with thousands of likes and no one will see it.

If you use hashtags the RIGHT way, however, they can be very effective at generating new likes and followers!

The trick:

Use different size hashtags according to the size of your following and how much engagement you get. It's all about the size of your Instagram account vs. the size of the hashtag your using.

If you have a smaller (and fabulous!) but growing account, what you want to do is find smaller hashtags so that your content stays on the top for longer! Thus exposing your post to more people! Win-win!!

Still with me? Good! Because I've done a little digging and I've compiled a list of some bigger, medium-sized, and smaller hashtags for travel bloggers to use! If you're not a travel blogger, stay tuned! I plan on putting out some more of these lists based on other niches.

Before we go any further, I'll ask you to go ahead and follow me on Instagram for putting in some of that elbow grease to do this list ;)

Hashtags Instagram Followers Guide Travel Bloggers

Big Hashtags over 1M+

These ones should be used sparingly, as they have so many entries it's highly likely your post will get lost unless you have a huge account bringing in thousands of likes.

#dametraveler #sheisnotlost #letsgosomewhere #letsgoeverywhere #wanderlusting #theprettycities #seemycity #wanderfolk #roamtheplanet #exploremore #keepitwild #adventureawaits #simplyadventure #darlingescapes #goexplore #homeawayfromhome #openmyworld #hotels

Medium hashtags Over 250,000-1M

You should only use these if you have a larger account. If you have a smaller account it can get lost in the mix.  I'd say these are safe to use if you get maybe 750+ likes per photo.

#girlswhotravel #adventureinspired #livetotravel #travelinsta #placestovisit #totravelistolive #alwaysgo #adventuring #adventureanywhere #getoutandexplore #teamtravelers #wishiwasthere #travelinstyle #lovetraveling #travelinggram #travelinspo #traveladdicted #budgettravel #myadventure #placestogo #thebestdestinations #stayandwonder #placetovisit #exploringtheworld #vacaymode #vacationlife #allaroundtheworld #travelingourplanet #beautifulhotels #hoteldesign

Small hashtags Under 250,000

I've found a lot of success using smaller hashtags, and find that my posts often show up in the top 9 for much longer.

#wanderingsoul #wanderess #girlswhowander #wandermore #wanderlove #wandergram #ladieslovetravel #shetravelz #damestravel #explorerbabes #girlsthattravel #travelingladies #wanderland #thewanderingtourist #shesnotlost #thetravelwoman #lifeofadventures #passportcollective #passportlife #traveladdicts #placesoftheworld #aroundtheglobe #amazingdestinations #beautifuldestinations #travelphotografy #girlsdreamtravel #girlmeetsglobe #darlingescape #visitpics #alldaytravel #traveltales #inspiredtravels #travelpicsdaily #tripgram #inspiredtraveller #radtravel #instatravelgram #igpassport #happytraveler #adventureofalifetime #adventuregram #aplacetoremember #destinationunknown #destinationstory #destination_wow #tripofwonders #girltrip #getaways #vacationing #travelingtheworldd #instahotel #resortsworld #discoverymap #adventureday

Now life on the internet is fast, so will these change as time goes on. Keep doing your research on your own, going back and making sure the hashtags you're using are still working for your size. Sometimes hashtags that I started using even a few months ago, I've had to swap out for new ones!

Hope this was helpful to you :)
