When Autumn Leaves Start to Fall
photos by deserie w.
Morning! Hope everyone had a dazzling weekend.
My mom and I took these while I was in RI... had to take advantage of that exquisite foliage. The good news is, there are some trees here and there in New York. I've been seeing leaves dropping here and there. But my parents have a yard full of them. What is it about them that makes my heart feel so warm?
Anyway, this skirt is my new love! I've been searching for a true A-line shape for what seems like ages, and this is the closest thing I've found. A few things though- it is waaay short! I could never go bare-legged... it really requires some opaque tights to go with it. Also, I wouldn't recommend it for big-booty girls like myself. I know, I'm being a hypocrite. I'm wearing it. The thing is, I thought the hips were free-sized. Turns out, it comes with a pencil skirt-type lining underneath. One that my big booty did not fit into very comfortably. I actually had to take the lining out in order to make the skirt work. But now that it's gone, I'm happy and will wear it all over town!
I brought along this sweater to pair with the skirt, because I realized I hadn't worn it in forever. Before this picture was taken, it actually had another design element to it- some dark blue ruffles in the front. I decided these were unnecessary, and hindered the potential for me to wear it with other outfits. So I did some quick surgery... and now it's plainer, and I can wear with anything. Which I like :)

These pictures look so autumnal and pretty! I think this skirt looks super cute on you even if it's short! The shape is really fun. I really like your cozy-looking cardigan too.
ReplyDeletethank you jamie! it is a super cozy cardigan :)
Deletebeautiful! such a special shape :) love the colour combination as well (and I am not so secretly jealous of your necklace ;)
ReplyDelete:D the necklace is pretty drool-worth, i'll give you that.
Deletelovely!
ReplyDeleteI've never understood the pencil skirt lining in an a-line dress or skirt. I've had to do the same thing a few times. Frustrating! You look fantastic. I feel better in tights with short skirts as well.
ReplyDeletei know! it's especially hard when you are ordering online. and i don't mind short skirts, but this was like... i better not bend over... ever :P thanks though!
DeleteHoly moly yesiree that skirt is perfect to say the least. I will never figure out why they do that with the pencil skirt lining underneath though. I have the same problem with fitting my grand ol hips into those things for sure. Absolutely love it in you & with that sweater & tights it all just screams autumn. I really wish the season & leaves could last longer - our trees in PA are nearly bare! xo Marisa
ReplyDeleteaw, that's so sad about the trees. i, too wish autumn could last longer. although it seemed really warm throughout september and october for the most part. it's just starting to get chilly now, but i want more sunlight! xx
DeleteYou look so cute in this outfit like a teenage girl! And I do agree those skirts are annoying, having a big bum Myself haha! But it did turn out quite lovely on You Chantilly!!!
ReplyDeleteLoads of love, SJay!

i think it's the shortness of the skirt that makes the whole thing so "young" looking... i'm definitely not a teenager :P big bums unite!
DeleteLovely skirt and your hair looks amazing, too ;). What's the deal with skirts' lining? I don't see its point, it only makes the skirt more uncomfortable, haha.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well in your neck of the woods ;)!
