The Update

The Update

My first update since February?!  Yeahh.....

I keep writing and re-writing this post.  Things are forever changing.  The whole blogging landscape is different, and the landscape of my life is different.   And the following major, life-changing things that have happened since my last post:

++ I moved out of Brooklyn, my home for the past decade.   I have very mixed feelings about it.

By the time we made the decision to leave, there were so many things I hated about the City.  The sleep-when-I'm-dead culture and always-gotta-hustle mentality.  The fact that every single person is so detached from their physical reality, because they're trying to forget that they're shoved up against some guy's armpit on the 6 train....

Well, I thought I'd love having a nice break from the New York Hustle.  I do.  But going from big to small-city living has been a culture shock.  During the first few months, I was having panic attacks every time I went to Target or Home Depot, because everything was so big and spread out, and all the people were different than I was used to.

I also feel like I've basically said goodbye to a lot of my dreams.  Even though I've never completely thrived as an NYC hardass, I was slowly building something, and finally felt like I figured a few things out... all the musicians, friends, and relationships cultivated, forming Noise Collective, running songwriting workshops, and growing a studio of music students.  I had to hit the reset button on all that, which felt devastating.  It is never not daunting to start over in life.

However...

Good Things About Moving
~ I just joined a gym and I really love it!!!  I forgot just how much I need and crave to move my body around, and it is the best for stress relief.
~ I do feel like much more in touch with my physical self, because there are mountains, and a river, and tons of beautiful nature all around.
~ Trips to any store are 1000x easier because with a car, you can actually carry around more than two bags.
~ Great access to locally farmed meat (increasingly important to me, as I abhor factory farming.)
~ Cheaper prices on EVERYTHING.

++ I got married (!!!!!)  ... A process which I chose not to painstakingly document, even though I could've gotten tons of views/ clicks/ likes etc.

Thing is, I've spent zero amount of time in my life dreaming about the perfect wedding.  Most women have running lists in their head of the perfect everything they'd ever want on that day.  But I started from scratch... so I hilariously had no idea what I was doing.  I stumbled the whole way through planning.   I committed sooooo many heinous faux-pas and breaches of etiquette.

People have expectations.  You see things one way, and they see things another.  It is crazy-making, and now I totally get why some people turn into Bridezillas.  Being a bride can make you feel like a pretty pretty princess.  It can also make you want to CUT someone :P

In the end, of course everything turned out awesome.  I loved my dress, hair, makeup, and venue decor choices.  I loved seeing Matt for our first look :)  I loved the sand under my toes.

We got tons of "Best Wedding Ever" compliments.  I was also bestowed the title of "Chillest Bride Ever."  Everything going wrong or not as planned,  I had to say F*ck it and just go with it.  And luckily, I had a lot of friends and family to help out :)

Now that it's over, I love the memories of our charming, imperfect seaside wedding, bruises and all.   More pics soon :)

Sorry for the grainy pic!  It's my favorite one at the moment though, as our "official" photos are not in yet.  Taken by my friend Tamar.

Okay, so there's more stuff... like how I TOTALLY dropped the ball in the middle of my music release.  I had been planning to put out six new songs, and now four of them are sitting on the shelf, and I never got to do any decent promotion on the first two... booo :(  Going to try and pick up that ball soon.

But that's for another day.

  7. Glad you are back. I have never moved but I can totally see how it can be both a bad/good thing full of mixed feelings. I'm from a small town and want to move to a bigger city and I know that would take a lot of getting used to. Welcome back btw. And congratulations! You've been a busy woman :)
